Atchoo!

Actually, I always think these things are going to make me sneeze, but they don't.  One of those mysteries in life...

I don't know why

This picture just cracks me up for some reason.  I was sitting at Bon Temps Creole Cafe for breakfast one morning and I look over, and here are these three flies just sitting there.  I had to take a picture of it.  It's like they're having a fly meeting or something.  Anyway, hope you like it half as much as I do.

TGIF!

First day off since all the wedding craziness finished.  Today I'm getting my hair cut and that's it.  No errands, no commitments, no being charming, just relaxing...and laundry, really need to do some laundry.

Anyone else noticed?

Has anyone else noticed the days are definitely getting shorter?  Where'd summer go?

J'adore

If only it was the real thing and not in the desert of Nevada.

Phone Fun

For my friend's bachelorette party, where did we go?  Vegas, of course.  And while in Vegas, where did we stay?  Paris, bien sûr!

Oh deer

It's been awhile, hasn't it?  I do have an excuse!  I swear I do.  My best friend just got married on Saturday and I was the maid of honor.  If any of you have held that job, you'll understand my absence over the past month.  Between dress fittings, bachelorette party, bridal shower, calming down the bride-to-be, getting last minute decorations (making last minute decorations), work and trying to stay even remotely sane, there was just no time for blogging.  Sorry!  I'll try to get back into it...or at least not go an entire month again without updating.

Happy Hump Day!

I promise, the weekend is coming.  It may not feel like it, but it's on its way.

Yay for days off!

After working 6 days in a row, I finally get to enjoy a day off.  Methinks beach, perhaps?

Bee gone!

I know, I know, groan.  I can't help it!

Let there be light!

June gloom still persists in the mornings even though it's now the middle of July.  I just want to wake up to the sunshine, is that too much to ask?

Bee Yourself!

Seriously, why are the bees this year so photogenic?  I've taken more good bee photographs this year than I ever have in all the previous years combined!  Perhaps it's not the bees, but the fact that I now have a lens that can do them justice.

You can dance if you want to

A couple of weeks ago, I went over to my mom's house to take pictures of her art studio.  She's entering it into Cloth Paper Scissors Studio magazine and needed to send in a few photos.  If chosen, there will be more pictures sent and it will be my first photo byline in a national magazine!  So, keep your fingers crossed for both of us.  This week I'm posting a few of my favorites from that shoot.

Ambiance

As I said yesterday, Noah brought a plant, I brought 10 of these guys.  Our campsite was so pretty and glowy!

A small piece of home

A few weeks ago, Noah and I went to the Live Oak Music Festival.  We go every year.  This was my 12th time going and Noah's 16th.  This year, we decided we needed some ambiance in our campsite.  I brought paper lanterns, Noah brought a plant.

Enjoy celebrating America's birthday!  Be safe with your drinking and fireworks and any other mischief you might be making.

It's Caturday!

Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend.  Me?  I'm at work slaving away with arts and crafts.  Once 6:30 hits though, I'll be out enjoying the sunshine as well!

Busy as a bee

I know, I've been gone for a month.  No, there was no fantastical vacation, no extreme injury, nothing really exciting at all.  Just busy busy busy.  Between work, Noah's birthday, Live Oak, planning a bachelorette party, and life just generally getting in the way of things, there hasn't been a lot of time to go take pictures.  In fact, for a bit, I lost any interest in going out and taking photographs...luckily that has passed.  I can't guarantee an update every day, but I will definitely make an effort not to go an entire month again with no post.

Happy Memorial Day!

Since I had to work today, I did some celebrating yesterday with friends in the sunshine.  I hope you got to have a drink or two, perhaps some bbq and just an all around wonderful weekend.  Hope you didn't forget to take a moment to thank all the service men and women out there who have fought and continue to fight for all the freedoms we enjoy!

phone fun!

Yes, I'll admit it, I'm one of those Instagram users.  I just love the filters!!!  If I have my camera with me though, it always wins out over a silly app on my phone.

Summer, really?

Hard to believe that there are schools out for summer break already.  When did winter fade away and it become summer?

Can't hide from Monday

I worked all weekend though, so Monday doesn't carry quite the dread for me that it does for others.

August Sander

August Sander is best known for portraits: portraits of everyone.  When he was still quite young, he decided that he wanted to depict "People of the 20th Century" arranged by origin and occupation.  While the work as a whole was divided into seven groups, hardly any occupation, profession or status in life was overlooked.  These seven groups included "The Farmer," "The Artisan," The Women," "The Estates," "The Artists," "The Big City," and "The Last Men."

His work would contain more than 45 portfolios.  The final portfolio consisted of "Idiots, the Sick, Mentally Ill and the Dead."  "We must be able to bear seeing the truth," Sander had written.  He had a credo that he had written for his first exhibit: "There is nothing I detest more than sugar-coasted photography with its frills, poses and effects."

It makes you wonder, under which group and portfolio would you fall?

What can I say?  I like snow leopards.  Hope you're enjoying this beautiful Saturday!

My bad

I know, I know, I've been gone for a loooong time.  I don't really even have a good excuse.  Life's been, well, stressful lately.  So certain things (like blogging) got put on the back burner.  Other things have been going on though.  I started an Etsy site for Jenny B's Photography.  You should definitely check it out!  Hopefully you'll see something you like.  I'll be adding more photographs on there soon.  If you have a favorite that you'd love to see for sale, send me an e-mail and I'll add it on there.  I also started a facebook page devoted to my photography.  So, if you have a facebook account, I would love it if you would "like" me!  I promise I will try my darnedest to actually post more.  Thanks for being patient with me!

Lewis W Hine

Born in 1874 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Lewis W Hine is considered one of the fathers of investigative journalism.  He's well known for his photographs of immigrants on Ellis Island and surprising pictures of child workers in mines and mills.  At 18, he found himself a worker in a factory, putting in 13 hour days, 6 days a week as a result of his father's early death.  This was one of the things that drove him to to spend his life  combating child labor.

In 1930, having trouble keeping up with his bills, despite professional success, he accepted an offer to photograph the construction of the Empire State Building.  His pictures of workers balancing high above the New York skyline became legendary.  Who hasn't seen the photograph below of workmen eating lunch on the 69th floor of the GE building during the construction of Rockefeller Center?
