Capitol Idea
Saw Great Moments with Mr Lincoln while at Disneyland. In the outer room, there's a hand carved model of the capitol building. It was very impressive. I can't even imagine having the patience to carve all those details.
Hand carved is probably somewhat of a misnomer. It looks like most of it is done with wood working tools, the pillars at least partially with a lathe, and lots of the little details are probably done with the sort of jigs and tools you use to make dovetails, and various types of fancy molding. Made by hand yes, but using lots of power tools along the way. Still very impressive, but makes it much easier to get all the details to match, because of the sizing jigs.
Mr Lincoln still going strong, is he? He was there when I was a kid, but I don't remember the capitol building.
I work retail for 45 hours a week. So to escape the chaos that is customer service, I take pictures that will calm me. I try to find something amazing in something common. I try to see what no one else will see.
Ooooooo. Excellent shot! The lighting is really really nice...
